Walk the path through the towering pines and make your way up to the first floor, where the adventure begins. Inside, a dramatic spiral wooden staircase winds its way up to the heart of the home — a showstopper in its own right, and a conversation piece for every group that stays here. Please note: the staircase is charming but requires careful footing, especially for young children and pets, and the walk from parking to the front door means this home is best suited for guests who are comfortable on their feet.

Upstairs, the main living area will stop you in your tracks. Soaring vaulted ceilings with exposed wooden beams, a magnificent stone fireplace flanked by built-in bookshelves packed with an extensive library, and a stunning wall of windows that frames the towering pines like a living portrait — so beautiful you'll find yourself just sitting and staring. Whether you're curled up on the couch with a book as the fire crackles, streaming your favorites on the smart TV, or simply sitting in the mountain silence, this room is pure magic.

Step through the door from the dining area and discover one of Tahquitz Rock Lodge's greatest treasures — a full wraparound deck that circles the entire second floor. Dine al fresco at the table for six, stretch out on the wooden sunbathing loungers, find your own quiet corner in one of the many two-person seating nooks, or simply breathe in the pine-scented air as the trees sway around you. And when night falls? This is a designated dark sky area — meaning once the lights go out at 9pm, the stars above Fern Valley are absolutely breathtaking. No light pollution, no distractions. Just you and the Milky Way.

The master suite upstairs features a sleigh bed and those same gorgeous windows looking out into the treetops, making waking up here feel like the best part of the day. Its private en suite bathroom is a retreat in itself — a gorgeous soaking tub, beautiful tile work, and a green vanity that feels both luxurious and perfectly mountain. Downstairs, two more bedrooms each with their own character await, including a second sleigh bed and a full bathroom. The first floor also has its own living area centered around a wood-burning stove — warm, tucked away, and perfect for families with little ones or anyone craving their own quiet corner within the cabin. A double futon here brings the total guest count to 8.

The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook a proper mountain meal — including a dishwasher and microwave — and when the weather calls for it, take it outside and fire up the gas grill on the wraparound deck. The dining area is ready for a feast either way. After dinner, dig into the game collection, pull a book from the shelves, or let the evening slow all the way down — the way mountain evenings should.

Tahquitz Rock Lodge sits in a true digital detox zone — cell service is limited up here, but free WiFi keeps you connected when you need it. Mostly though, the mountains will take care of the rest. Practical comforts are covered too — a washer and dryer on the first floor makes longer stays feel completely effortless.

Your furry family members are welcome too — up to two dogs are invited along for the adventure. Just a short drive away, the charming village of Idyllwild awaits — a one-of-a-kind mountain town with craft breweries, live music, wine bars, record shops, world-class hiking, and a thriving arts scene that surprises every first-time visitor. It's the kind of place people come for a weekend and start looking at real estate by Sunday.

Cell service is limited — free WiFi available. Quiet hours are observed from 10pm–8am; a noise-awareness system is in place. Outdoor lights must be off by 9pm per dark sky area regulations. Riverside County prohibits blinking, flashing, or rotating outdoor lighting.
